Mobile Coastal storm history

A man in his 30s drowned due to a rip current on the West End Beach of Dauphin Island.

Three swimmers were caught in a rip current on Dauphin Island, AL around 430 pm on April 13th. An 18 year old female from Hurley, MS was taken by USCG helicopter to a nearby hospital where she later died. Two other people were transported via ambulance but survived.

A 47 year old father and his 17 year old son, visiting from Taiwan, were swept out by a rip current off of Dauphin Island and drowned.

Approximately 7 to 9 inches of snow fell across Mobile County, with the highest totals observed along the coast.

Multiple photos relayed on social media of water over the roadway on Dauphin Island. Some roads are impassable, particularly along the west end of the island.

Bayou La Batre Police Department reported that Shell Belt road is impassable.

Shell Belt Road South is impassable from Kennedy and all roads eastward. Coden Belt Road is also impassable.

Up to one foot of salt water covering portions of Bienville Blvd, starting around Surf Ct. Sand also covered the side streets along Bienville Blvd.
