The Fresno County Sherrifs Office reported a 37 year old male hiker on the John Muir Trail near Muir Trail Ranch was struck by lightning and killed during a thunderstorm around 200 pm PDT on July 30.
Daytime highs ranged between 100 and 104 degrees on June 23-26 and between 104 and 108 degrees on June 27. A 27 year old man died after being overcome by heat while working on the Fresno State University water tower on June 25.
Moderate to heavy rain caused a multiple vehicle accident on SR 99 just north of Fresno. Some of the individuals who had occupied the cars in the crash were then struck by a drunk driver which killed one of the individuals.
Moderate to heavy rain in Fresno on Highway 99 north of Highway 41 interchange may have contributed to a fatal car crash around 1900 PST. The stretch of highway 99 was closed until around midnight 11/21 due to the crash investigation.

The Highway Fire is suspected to have been caused by arson. It burned 4152 acres and forced the evacuation of a large number of residents. There were no fatalities but 8 structures were lost (3 primary and 5 out-buildings). Total cost to contain was over $6M.
Named the "Choke Fire" it burned more than 3900 acres in the high country of the Southern Sierra Nevada in the Sequoia National Forest. It was a lightning caused fire from thunderstorms associated with monsoonal moisture.
