Grand storm history

Heavy rain produced additional flash flooding where there is some culvert damage east of Williams Fork River on Kinney Creek Road.

Nineteen people were injured by lightning at the Fourth Annual Kremmling Cliff Classic Golf Tournament. The group of people were on a bluff overlooking the town when the lightning struck. Four people had to be hospitalized, two suffered serious injuries.

CO-125 was closed from milepost zero to 13 for a flash flood and mudslide near milepost 13.

Highway 125 was closed overnight in both directions due to mudslide concerns betweek Trail Creek and Forest Road 112.

Significant flash flooding and debris flows were observed at Drowsy Water Ranch, with damage reported to offices and outbuildings. A rain gauge at the ranch measure 1.04 in 90 minutes, 0.86 fell between 15:45 and 16:25.

Grand County experienced periods of heavy rainfall during the evening. The commercial operation at Drowsy Water Ranch was heavily impacted. The Ranch began an evacuation of guests to predetermined safe facilities on the property in accordance with their emergency plans.

Flash flooding along Tonahutu Creek forced the shut down of Grand Lake's hydro plant.

Substantial flooding was reported on the northwest portion of the East Troublesome burn area which caused localized flash flooding along State Highway 125. The highway was closed north of Granby to the Jackson county line to clear mud and debris from the roadway.

Strong microburst winds damaged several boats at Grand Lake. Two large pontoon boats were lifted out of the water, one landed upside down near a home.

The combination of heavy rain and spring runoff caused flash flooding along St. Louis Creek.

Intense straightline winds from a severe thunderstorm knocked a 50-foot tree on to a roof. Fences were also toppled and shingles removed. Several loose objects were lifted and tossed.

A man was hit in the head by lightning while golfing at the Grand Elk Ranch and Golf Club golf course in Granby. His clothes were completely blown off by the blast and his body turned purple. His wife performed CPR immediately and was able to resuscitate him.

Strong thunderstorm winds damaged the roof of West Grand Elementary School. The wind lifted large sections of rolled roofing and styrofoam insulation and blew it off the roof.
