Kent storm history

Snow began during the late morning hours on January 17th and ended by late afternoon. When the snow ended, 2.0 inches was reported near Milford, 1.0 near Felton, and 0.8 near Camden. Three automobile accidents were reported as a result of slippery roads, one with injuries.

Snowfall totals ranged from 1-3. The highest report was 3.4 from Smyrna Landing.

Widespread roadway flooding was reported in the tidal areas of the county, and there were numerous road closures. Many homes and other buildings were surrounded by flood waters with some minor property damage occurring. The tide gauge at Bowers Beach reached 7.85 feet MLLW.

The heat index at Delaware Airpark reached 113 degrees, and at Dover Air Force Base it reached 110 degrees.

Three days of high heat and humidity brought extreme heat indices. The heat index peaked at 114 degrees on June 23rd at Delaware Airpark and 110 degrees on June 24th at Dover Air Force Base.

Moderate to heavy snowfall occurred with totals around 6-8. The highest reported total was 8.3 in Magnolia and near Hazlettville.

A wintry mix of freezing rain and some sleet occurred. Trace amounts of sleet were reported in a few locations nearby, including Smyrna. Based on surrounding reports, a glaze to 0.1 of freezing rain occurred across the county.
