Event narrative

Snowfall totals of 7 to 9 inches were received within roughly 5 miles of Lake Superior along the North Shore in Cook County. The highest report was from 10 miles northeast of Grand Marias where 9.5 inches was recorded.

Wider weather episode

An area of low pressure moved across northern Minnesota on the 18th and lifted a warm front across the Minnesota Arrowhead during the morning hours. Southerly winds off Lake Superior led to lake and terrain-enhanced snowfall along the North Shore of Lake Superior.

Snowfall totals of 6 to 9 inches were reported within about 5 miles of Lake Superior with the highest total being 9.5 inches 10 miles northeast of Grand Marais.
