Event narrative

A CoCoRaHS observer 1.8 miles southwest of Cloudcroft reported 12.5 inches of snow. Other reports around the area included 8 inches 2.3 miles south and 1.1 miles northwest of Cloudcroft.

Wider weather episode

An upper level trough was moving through the Great Basin into the Four Corners region. Southwest flow ahead of the trough tapped some subtropical moisture and a 130+ knot jet aided in developing snow over the higher elevations of southern New Mexico.
