An increase in rainfall over Kapingamarangi allowed it to transition from Severe

Drought (D2) in December to Moderate Drought (D1) at the beginning of January.

Wider weather episode

A few areas received enough rain to decrease there drought severity, while a few had worsening drought conditions.
