A shortwave embedded in an upper trough, covering the eastern United States, merged with a disturbance riding along a cold front, south of Kentucky. This resulted in widespread snow showers from the Lower Ohio Valley to New England. Central Kentucky counties received anywhere from 0.5 to 10 inches of snow.
