The wind gust occurred at the Oregon Inlet Weatherflow site. Strong non thunderstorm wind gusts were observed on the Outer Banks behind a rapidly strengthening low pressure system that moved across the area.

Thunderstorms developed and moved through Eastern NC during the morning hours. A few storms became severe and produced damaging wind gusts across the region. Strong non-thunderstorm wind gusts developed in the afternoon behind a rapidly strengthening low pressure system that moved across the Outer Banks.
