Event narrative

Total snowfall ranged from 3 to 6 inches across Shirley Basin, per estimates from the NOHRSC Interpolated Snowfall Analysis. Wyoming Route 487 was closed from Medicine Bow to Wyoming Route 220 due to winter conditions.

Wider weather episode

Widespread snow and blowing snow occurred across southeast Wyoming from the afternoon and evening on March 8th through the evening of March 9th. Total snowfall accumulations of 4 to 8 inches were common across the lower elevations with widespread totals of 1 to 2 feet in the mountains at elevations above 8000 feet. Winter conditions resulted in multiple road closures per WYDOT.
