Event narrative

An estimated 6 to 9 inches of lake effect snowfall over less than a 24-hour period combined with northwest winds gusting 40 to 50 mph at times resulted in blizzard conditions across northern Schoolcraft County during the early morning hours of the 19th.

Wider weather episode

A strong winter storm brought moderate to heavy snow and considerable blowing snow to portions of west and north central Upper Michigan from the 18th into the 19th. The storm also packing northwest wind gusts over 60 mph brought blizzard conditions and power outages to Alger County during the morning of the 19th.
