Event narrative
At 345 AM EDT (245 AM EST), a Weatherflow mesonet site at West Island recorded a wind gust to 66 mph. At 458 AM EDT (358 AM EST), a Weatherflow station at The Knubble at Horseneck Beach in Westport recorded a wind gust to 69 mph. At 459 AM EDT (359 AM EST), the ASOS at the New Bedford Airport (KBED) recorded a gust to 52 mph. The following reports were from law enforcement, relayed via amateur radio operators. They all occurred between 413 AM and 628 AM EDT (313 AM and 528 AM EST). In Westport, multiple small branches were down on the entire length of Old Harbor Road; power lines were down on Pine Hill Road; and a tree and wires were down on Tickle Road. In Somerset, a tree and power lines were down on Hargraves Avenue. In New Bedford, a tree was down on Reed Road at Stonewall Avenue; a large tree branch was down on Acushnet Avenue; and a tree and wires were down on a car on Bullard Street. In Fall River, a large tree was down on the southbound lane of Plymouth Avenue; the fire department reported a tree down on wires on an unspecified street.
Wider weather episode
A coastal storm moved northward from the mid-Atlantic coast late on the 18th to interior New England during the pre-dawn morning hours on the 19th. Locally heavy rainfall helped bring down damaging wind gusts from a low-level jet across Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts. The storm system also brought 1 to 4 inches of snow to the east slopes of the Berkshires in northwest Massachusetts.
