Event narrative

Numerous downed powerlines and tree limbs resulting in power outages across the county. Ice-covered roads were also reported.

Wider weather episode

Broad troughing across the western half of the country provided upper-level support to deepen a surface cyclone over the Great Plains. An attendant warm front stretched from the Plains across the Great Lakes, serving as the primary forcing mechanism for a mixed-precipitation winter weather event that lead to ice accumulations of 0.25 - 0.40 across parts of central lower Michigan along and north of the boundary. The long duration of sub-freezing surface temperatures combined with above freezing temperatures aloft resulted in two rounds of freezing rain spanning 2/21 and 2/22.
