Event narrative

The Show Low Airport ASOS reported high wind criteria between 915 AM and 440 PM MST. The peak wind gust was 61 MPH at 955 AM. Springerville Airport just to the north of this zone reported high wind criteria between 1215 PM MST and 515 PM with a peak wind gust of 67 MPH at 350 PM MST.

Wider weather episode

A deepening cold upper low across the Pacific Northwest brought strong westerly gradients over Arizona with persistent southwest winds. The strongest winds were observed over the Eastern Mogollon Rim, White Mountains, and the Little Colorado River Valley in Navajo and Apache counties.
