The wider storm
A strong shortwave moving across the Midwest provided support for a cyclone that tracked from the Great Plains through the upper Great Lakes, deepening near 990mb as it slid overhead. This system produced heavy rainfall across the northern lower peninsula and a mix of winter precipitation across the eastern upper peninsula. Over 0.25 of ice accumulation came from freezing rain across Chippewa county during the evening of 3/5.
