Trained spotter reported an estimated wind gust of 58 mph. A mesonet in the area (MacDonald Pass) measured a gust of 56 mph.
Wider weather episode
Strong westerly flow aloft resulted resulted in gusty downslope winds in the afternoon Feb 28. The surface pressure gradient strengthened along the Rocky Mountain Front and central Montana, which helped translate the winds aloft down to the surface.
