A north northwest wind gust of 41 knots was measured at an automated WeatherFlow station at Smith Shoal Light.

Wider weather episode

Strong thunderstorms developed over the southeast Gulf of Mexico, aided by a sharp shortwave trough of low pressure aloft. Widespread gale-force wind gusts associated with the thunderstorms spread throughout the coastal waters of the Lower Keys during the early morning hours of February 13, 2022, but were more isolated along the Upper Keys as the thunderstorms weakened.
