Event narrative

The Jim Wildfire occurred on the Trabuco Ranger District in the Holy Jim Canyon area. This fire was unintentionally ignited during a wildlife and habitat restoration maintenance project. No structures were destroyed, but three minor injuries to firefighters were reported. The fire started in a drainage bottom and spread uphill and burned 553 acres of vegetation (chaparral and brush).

Wider weather episode

The Jim Wildfire was ignited on March 2, 2022 and was declared out on March 27. This wildfire consumed 500 acres of vegetation. The US Forest Service investigators determined the cause was unintentional, and was ignited during a Forest Service-sponsored wildlife and habit restoration maintenance project during barrier removal.
