Winter Weather — Eastern Preston, West Virginia

2022-03-26 to 2022-03-27 · Eastern Preston, West Virginia

Event narrative

Six to eight inches of snow fell over the 24 hour period, with reports coming from near Terra Alta and seven miles north of Thomas.

Wider weather episode

A passing shortwave trough and strong cold advection led to the development of numerous snow showers during the afternoon of March 26th. An overall lack of deep moisture and the relatively high late March sun angle helped to limit accumulation in many areas. However, due to upslope enhancement and better temperature profiles, the higher elevations were able to achieve some notable accumulations.
