Event narrative
A peak wind gust of 59 MPH was measured by an automated weather station.
Wider weather episode
A broad Pacific trough and associated polar jet caused the pressure gradient to tighten over western Colorado. This, paired with the approach of a surface cold front, resulted in widespread wind gusts of 40 to 55 mph. The northwest Colorado valleys saw gusts that exceeded 58 mph, which met high wind criteria.
