Event narrative

Estimated widespread freezing rain of 0.25 inches or more caused treacherous and icy road conditions, tree damage and widespread power outages during the period. Schools were cancelled on the 23rd due to the impacts from the freezing rain.

Wider weather episode

Warmer, moist air moving across a shallow layer of cold air at the surface produced fairly widespread freezing rain for portions of west and central Upper Michigan from the 22nd into the 23rd. The freezing rain resulted in treacherous and icy road conditions, tree and power line damage and power outages.
