Event narrative

A line of thunderstorms pushed off the coast and over the Laguna Madre and Coastal Waters the morning of May 24th. The Texas Ocean Observing Network (TCOON) site at Realitos Peninsula (RLIT2) began gusting above 34 knots at 2:30AM CDT and continued until 3:12AM CDT and recorded a peak gust of 47 knots at 2:42AM CDT. Additionally, the same line of thunderstorms brought a wind gust of 40 knots to the TCOON site at the South Padre Island Coast Guard Station (PCGT2) at 3:18AM CDT.

Wider weather episode

A thunderstorm complex which had produced nearly a dozen instances of damaging wind, large hail, and flash flooding from Zapata through Hidalgo County finally pushed off land and over the Lower Texas Coastal Waters the morning of May 24th and brought several gusts over 34 knots as it did so. The highest gust was reported at Buoy 42020 of 43 mph.
