What EF2 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF2 is considerable damage: roofs torn off well-built houses, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, consistent with estimated gusts of 111–135 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

A tornado touched down approximately one mile southeast of Burnsville in Anson County and tore a tin roof off of an agriculture out building. The tornado continued on a path to the northeast and and damaged or destroyed several chicken barns and remained on the ground most of the time until moving into southern Stanly County. Additional damage occurred 1.5 miles east-northeast of Burnsville, in Anson County. At approximately 12:27 PM EST damage there consisted of a brick home that was shifted off of its foundation, several exterior walls that were blown out, and more than half of the roof was removed. Damage at this location was rated an EF-2 with wind speeds of 120 mph.

The wider storm

A pre-frontal band of showers and isolated thunderstorms moved into a marginally unstable but highly sheared environment leading to a couple of tornadoes, namely in Anson into Stanly counties and just west of the Raleigh Durham International Airport from Research Triangle Park into southeast Durham County.

Began near Burnsville (35.1042, -80.2373).
