Several sites (PAJZ, PAMB) hit 1/2 mile of less with winds 22 to 30+ mph for at least two hours; would call it verified as it likely verified in other areas where sensors are not located. Dillingham reported one half mile visibility or less from 8:58 am to 9:56 am with winds 20 mph and gusts greater than 25 mph.
Igiugig reported one half mile or less visibility from 6:19 am to 10:56 am. The station also recorded greater than or equal to 30 mph winds from 6:19 to 7:11 am and recorded winds 18-25 mph with gusts greater than or equal to 29 mph between 9:53 to 10:56 am. Koliganek reported one half mile or less visibility from 10:33 through 12:18, but winds below 25 mph. Manokotak reported one half mile or less visibility from 8:40 to 10:56 am. Winds were generally 23+ mph sustained with gusts around 30 mph. New Stuyahok reported one half mile or less visibility from 4:30 to 6:46 am on the 3rd.
Wider weather episode
A large, impactful, and far-reaching low pressure system brought blizzard conditions to portions of Southwest and Southcentral Alaska. The system sent precipitation into an Arctic air mass already entrenched over much of the area resulting in the wintry weather.
