Event narrative
Dense fog developed during the early morning hours, with visibility under one-quarter mile. Along North Dakota Highway 23, in Mountrail County near the Ward County line, a pickup-truck pulled onto the highway out of a private driveway. A semi-truck pulling a tanker loaded with diesel fuel was traveling along Highway 23 and struck the pickup, resulting in the death of the driver of the pickup. The North Dakota Highway Patrol reported dense fog with near zero visibility at the time of the incident, along with compacted snow and ice on the road surface. A 911 call about the accident came in around 7:55 AM.
