Event narrative
Koliganek AWOS reported one half mile visibility with moderate snow and freezing fog with sustained winds of 35 mph and gusts to 40 mph on the 27th for much of the afternoon. Manokotak recorded similar conditions as well.
Wider weather episode
A large winter storm moved northward from the North Pacific setting up a tight pressure gradient across Southwest Alaska and the Eastern Aleutians. As the precipitation moved into these areas, it combined with the winds to cause reductions in visibility.
