Kodiak reported one quarter mile visibility with moderate snow and freezing fog. Winds were also sustained out of the southeast at 24 knots with gusts to 34 knots. The event peaked on the 27th at 1:29 PM when the observation reported one quarter mile visibility with heavy snow and freezing fog. Winds were also sustained 25 knots with gusts to 35 knots out of the southeast.
Wider weather episode
A large winter storm moved northward from the North Pacific setting up a tight pressure gradient across Southwest Alaska and the Eastern Aleutians. As the precipitation moved into these areas, it combined with the winds to cause reductions in visibility.
