The month started with the western half of the zone in Severe(D2) drought while the east was in Moderate(D1) drought. By the end of April, the west was in Extreme(D3) drought and the east was in Severe(D2) drought.

Wider weather episode

No precipitation fell in April for almost all the area which lead to an expansion of Severe

(D2) to Exceptional(D4) drought conditions.
