Event narrative

The zone started out with the northeast half in Moderate(D1) drought with the southwest in Abnormally Dry(D0) drought. By the end of April, the eastern portion of the zone was in Extreme(D3) drought while the southwest remained Abnormally Dry(D0).

Wider weather episode

No precipitation fell in April for almost all the area which lead to Severe(D2) to Extreme(D3) drought conditions expanding in coverage.
