Strong west winds impacted the San Gorgonio Pass on April 16th. Wind gusts of 45-55 mph were common, with localized higher gusts. The Whitewater RAWS site recorded a peak wind gust of 70 mph.

A quick-moving upper wave moved through the western US on April 16th, which led to increasing west winds over the mountains and deserts of Southern California. Strong winds interacted with very dry conditions to lead to a dust storm in Southern California.
