Event narrative

A White Sands Missile Range mesonet station southeast of Bosque del Apache measured a 60 mph wind gust associated with strong downburst winds from nearby shower and thunderstorm activity.

Wider weather episode

While mid-level moisture was still present across northern and central New Mexico on June 13, 2022, conditions at the surface and low-levels remained very dry. This led to another afternoon of high-based, dry thunderstorm activity where gusty and erratic downburst winds were the primary hazard. Several stations across the area measured brief wind gusts in excess of 60 mph from these dry thunderstorms.
