Event narrative
Mesonet station just west of the northern tip of the Cedar Point Peninsula recorded a peak gust of 47 knots from a passing thunderstorm.
Wider weather episode
As a surface low moved northeastward across northwestern Ohio and toward central Lake Erie, a warm front extending southeastward from the low moved northeastward toward northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania, while the trailing cold front swept eastward across western Ohio during the early through mid-evening of the 3rd. A line of multicell thunderstorms moved northeastward in the warm sector and produced a couple gale-force peak wind gusts along Sandusky Bay. These storms occurred in an environment comprised of weak to moderate MUCAPE and moderate to strong effective bulk shear.
