Wider weather episode
Lake Erie resided in the warm sector during the afternoon and early evening of the 16th, when a pre-frontal surface trough moved east-southeastward across the lake. Low-level convergence and associated ascent along the trough axis acted as a focus for the development of isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some of this convection generated gale-force peak wind gusts along the lakeshore in northeast OH and northwest PA. The convection occurred in an environment with weak MUCAPE and moderate effective bulk shear.
