The Mississippi Canyon KGLX measured a thunderstorm wind gust of 51 mph or 45 knots.

Wider weather episode

A strong cold front moving through the area produce a line of strong thunderstorms on the leading edge of the frontal boundary. As those storms reached local marine areas, the lack of friction over water areas allowed for storm gusts to exceed gale force.
