Scattered thunderstorms developed near the mountains, and a lee side surface trough, to the north and then shifted south and organized into a Mesoscale Convective System (MCS) that produced strong damaging winds and some hail across the Midlands of SC, along with locally heavy rain and flooding in the Columbia metropolitan area, in the afternoon and evening.
