Winds gusted to 52 knots (60 mph) on the leading edge of the line of thunderstorms. Winds continued to gust between 35 and 40 knots for another half hour during the storm.
Wider weather episode
Severe storms moved across southern Lake Michigan during the afternoon hours of October 2nd and again during the late evening hours. Wind gusts between 35 and 50 knots were common with these storms, in addition to torrential rain and frequent lightning.
