AWOS unit at Barnwell Co Apt measured a peak wind gust of 36 knots (41 mph) at 1935 EDT (1835 EST).

The wider storm

Diurnal heating, along with a weak upper shortwave moving south over the region on the eastern periphery of an upper ridge, and convergence along surface boundaries, led to a cluster of thunderstorms that shifted south over the central Midlands of SC, some of which reached severe limits.
