Extreme drought developed over the western part of the county and severe drought developed over the eastern part of the county during the month.

Wider weather episode

Above normal rainfall occurred over Jim Wells and Duval counties and portions of La Salle and Webb Counties during the month of April. But this was not enough to improve severe to exceptional drought conditions over these counties. Below normal rainfall over the coastal plains during the month caused severe drought conditions to spread to this region during the month.
