The status of the drought remained unchanged through the month of May as extreme (D3) drought conditions persisted across the entirety of the zone.

Wider weather episode

Below normal precipitation persisted across much of eastern Utah during the month of May. This allowed the drought conditions to remain unchanged for many areas. An exception was across portions of northeast and east-central Utah which saw the drought worsen by the end of the month.
