Wider weather episode

A surface front moved little during the evening of the 13th through predawn hours on the morning of the 14th. The front remained draped southeastward from far-southwest Lower MI and far-northeast IN, through northern OH, and into southwest PA. This front separated a very warm, humid, and unstable air mass to its southwest from a cooler, drier, and stable air mass to its northeast. Two lines of multicell thunderstorms developed and evolved southeastward along this front.

The first squall line impacted far-southwestern Lake Erie during the late evening of the 13th and generated a couple of gale-force to storm-force peak convective gusts along the northwest OH shore. A second squall line affected far-western and southwestern Lake Erie during the predawn hours on the morning of the 14th and generated another gale-force peak convective gust along the northwest OH shore. Both squall lines occurred along a tight northeast-to-southwest gradient in MUCAPE accompanying the front and amidst primarily weak to moderate MUCAPE over and near western Lake Erie. These thunderstorms also took advantage of moderate DCAPE and moderate to strong effective bulk shear.
