The month started with the western half of the zone in Exceptional(D4) drought while the east was in Extreme(D3) drought conditions. By the end of May, the entire zone was in Exceptional(D4) drought. No precipitation fell at the Truth or Consequences Airport which was 0.55 inches below normal.
Wider weather episode
No precipitation fell for the second straight month over southern New Mexico. By the end of May, Exceptional(D4) drought conditions covered a large portion of the area.
