Event narrative

The month started out with the entire zone in Severe(D2) drought and finished with the zone in Extreme(D3) drought. The Mountain Park Cooperative Observer received no precipitation which was 0.84 inches below normal.

Wider weather episode

No precipitation fell for the second straight month over southern New Mexico. By the end of May, Exceptional(D4) drought conditions covered a large portion of the area.
