Event narrative

The entire zone went from Severe(D2) drought at the beginning of May to Extreme(D3) drought by the end of the month. The Cloudcroft Cooperative Observer received no precipitation which was 1.22 inches below normal.

Wider weather episode

No precipitation fell for the second straight month over southern New Mexico. By the end of May, Exceptional(D4) drought conditions covered a large portion of the area.
