A ridge of high pressure in the middle and upper atmosphere developed over the south central United States during early July. Unseasonably hot afternoon temperatures climbing into the 100 to 105 degree range, combined with high humidity, resulted in heat index values from 110 to 116 degrees across much of eastern Oklahoma on the 6th through the 8th. There were at least nineteen heat-related medical calls in the City of Tulsa during this period.
