A surface low situated over the Great Lakes tracked eastward toward New England, with a trailing cold front that pushed eastward towards the Commonwealth. SPC had eastern Kentucky in a marginal category for severe weather throughout the day, with the main threat being wind. A watch was issued for the forecast area in the late afternoon before severe storms associated with the front moved through.
