A 15 year old male drowned in a rip current at New Smyrna Beach. The Volusia County beach patrol reported over 200 people rescued from rip currents during this period.
Wider weather episode
High pressure off the North Carolina coast produced a long period swell on the east coast of Florida. This created frequent rip currents that resulted in two fatalities and hundreds rip current rescues.
