Event narrative
A 5-year old boy swimming at Pennoyer Park in Kenosha got caught in a river outlet current from the Pike River and drowned in Lake Michigan. An 8-year old girl was also struggling in the current, but was able to make it back to shore. She was transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Wider weather episode
A river outlet current from the Pike River pulled two children in the Lake Michigan. One child was able to safely make it back to shore on their own, while one child drowned.
