A gust to 43 mph was reported by mesonet station DW6222 at the La Pointe ferry dock.

The wider storm

An area of low pressure moved across the Northland during the afternoon of the 18th. Storms developed ahead of an associated cold front and turned into a line of storms that worked across much of northeastern Minnesota and into northwest Wisconsin and western Lake Superior. Winds were generally sub severe over the lake, but a few gusts 43 and 40 mph were recorded as they moved along the South Shore.
