Event narrative

Two inch diameter hail was observed near Wilmore.

Wider weather episode

A stationary front lingered across central Kentucky during the day on May 19th, with a warm and moist environment located along and south of this boundary. During the afternoon and evening hours, a negatively-tilted mid-level shortwave passed just north and west of the region, helping to add dynamic support to an already thermodynamically unstable environment. Storms formed near the front in the early afternoon as multicell clusters, with a few supercells moving along the southern flank of the convective activity. The strongest cells produced considerable amounts of large hail across central Kentucky, with hail sizes larger than baseballs being observed in Fayette and Harrison County.
