Event narrative
An ice jam formed at Sand Island, adjacent to McGrath, at 5pm on May 10th . Before the ice jam, waterleaves were near bankfull, and the ice jam caused the river to rise 4.5 feet in 6 hours ' from 19.2' at 5 PMto 23.7' and 11PM. The ice jam held for 26 hours, releasing at 6pm on 5/11, with the water dropping rapidly. The flooding caused damage to Chinana Avenue, the main road in town as well as the road to the dump. The flood damaged the sewage lagoon and the dump. Water entered basements and crawlspaces of around 15 homes.
